The Apple Farm, Afton Park
is on the B3399 near the junction of the A3055 close to Freshwater Bay
at the western end of the Isle of Wight, close to the sea and at the foot
of the chalk downs - a beautiful part of the world.
The famous Isle of Wight Pop
Festival was held just a mile away at Afton Down and this part of the
Isle of Wight is much the same as it was then. Afton Park is in a designated
area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
From
Newport (approx. 15 mins) - take the B3401 towards Freshwater
and follow the road all the way until you reach the name sign for Freshwater.
We are 100 metres past the 'Freshwater' sign on the left.
From
Yarmouth (approx. 6-8 mins) - Leave the ferry port and go left
onto the B3054 Newport road. After about 1 mile turn right into Wilmingham
Lane (signposted Thorley & Freshwater). Follow this road for 3 miles
to the T junction and turn right, again towards Freshwater. We are 100
metres past the 'Freshwater' sign on the left.
From
Freshwater Bay (approx. 3 mins) - Follow Afton Road towards Freshwater
village. Turn right on to the B3399 for Newport. Afton Park is 150 metres
on the right.
From
Freshwater Village (approx. 3 mins) - Follow the signs for Newport
and you will eventually find yourself driving along Afton Road, (over
a mini roundabout and past the co-op and Honnor & Jeffreys Garden
Centre). After about 1/2 mile turn left on to the B3399 for Newport.
Afton Park is 150 metres on the right.
By Bus/Ferry
Wightlink's Lymington to
Yarmouth ferry service meets with the No 42 Yarmouth bus which stops
right outside the main entrance - a short 8 minute bus ride.
From
Yarmouth take the footpath to Freshwater along the river. When
you reach the Causeway (stone bridge and cottage - see above) turn left
along the road for 600 yards to the T junction. Turn right for the Main
Entrance 100 yards on your left, or cross into Manor Road to the Walkers
and Cyclists entrance.
From
Freshwater and Freshwater Bay - follow the car route.
From
Afton Down and the Golf Course - follow the chalk bridleway but
turn north onto the Afton footpath which leads you off the Downs and
across the fields. This will bring you to Manor Road. Turn right and
then left on to the Newport Road. the entrance to Afton Park is 100
yards on your left.
