The Apple Walk takes you from
the Gravel Gardens through the Summer Garden to the wildflower meadow.
There are ten new matching pairs of apple cultivars over the apple walkway.
These have been chosen either for their suitability for organic cultivation
or because they are an interesting older cultivar. The apple sculpture
in the centre was carved by Paul Sivell in a single day at the first Apple
Days festival.
The apples along the walkway
are:
Ashmeads Kernel
Chivers Delight
Ellison Orange
Gloster 69
Lord Derby
Newton Wonder
Norfolk Royal
Peasgood's Nonsuch
Rev. W. Wilks
St. Edmunds Russet.
The trees on the walkway are
supported by a bent oak wood frame and should last enough yours for the
trees to become properly established and support themselves. Eventually
they will cover the oak framework and provide a lovely covered walkway
of blossom in spring, leaves in summer and apples in the autumn.
